Excellent – you were brave
Ooooooooo, nicely caught!!!

I just hope they aren’t emerging too soon…
Me, too!
This hive is about 15 feet up the trunk of the tree on a slope… so the bees’ flight and activity is well above my head. Thank you for being concerned. The truth is- these days I’m more worried about the safety and health of bees and honeybees (with all the reports of their population declines…).

The bees and the monarch butterflies too! Great photo, Jane.
A unique take on the “depth” theme. Beautiful textures. I wonder how deep this hive is? And I worry about the decline of our precious bees too.
Brilliantly done, Jane!
That is a very cool image of the honey bee in flight with the Red Cedar as a back drop off. Awesome!
great shot love the texture of the tree and the bee caught with the black background of the hole….
Great timing on this one Jane. Glad you didn’t get stung for your efforts!
Great shot!!
Amazing photo. I hope you used a zoom to get that close. I am really concerned about the plight of the bees, too. Without them, we are doomed.
Yes, it was a zoom lens… no worries there. 😉
Yes, the worries are about Apidae survival, to be sure we are doomed.
Thank you, Mary.
Me too, I wouldn’t want any bees harmed in the filming of that photo… 😉
Thanks, Jim. That particular cedar is one of the more impressive trees on our property. The bees have been living in that trunk for at least half a dozen years now.

Thank you, Patrick. Seems if one takes about 20 or so shots of a moving subject… there’s bound to be a keeper!
It is a great shot, just as the bee is in front of the dark blackness of the hole…
Thank you, Jim. This is a nice comment from one who I know has a good eye for photos 😉
🙂 Thank you
Hello Janet-
Red Cedar bark is lovely. I estimate the tree diameter at the hive to be about 3 feet. I don’t know how deep in the hive would be. That’s a good question.
~Jane
We have much to be concerned about with all the pollinators…
