JANE’s Images & Thoughts 🌲 Inspired by the Pacific Northwest & places I wander

What do Black-capped Chickadees have in common with Lewis & Clark?

They cache food! These birds cache single seeds in sites such as: bark, dead leaves, clusters of conifer needles, and knot holes. Food may be cached in hundreds of different locations. Birds remember and retrieve food up to 28 days later.

A group is called a “banditry” or a “dissimulation” of chickadees.
